What's a Canuffalo?
Well, first of all, it's not a thing. It's a place.
It's the region that extends from Toronto through Niagara Falls, Buffalo to the Southern Tier of Western New York.

Hi, my name is Rob Coffey and I'm the administrator of Canuffalo.com. A few years ago, soon after my family moved from Long Island to Western New York, my 13 year old son asked me why we moved to Canada. I explained to him that we lived in New York and not Canada, but he persisted in this belief for weeks. One day he came up to me and said "Dad, this may not be Canada but it sure isn't New York. We must live in Canuffalo". We both laughed till we had tears in our eyes. I didn't think too much more about it until one day, while I was surfing the web for local events, I realized that although there were a some terrific regional and local websites, their content varied in quantity and quality. I thought, wouldn't it be cool if there was one website which provided links to the information you needed from the best websites in the area. A directory of websites for Western New York/Southern Ontario. This is that website. It's called Canuffalo, thanks to my son.
After literarally hundreds of hours of surfing and research, I bring you the best of the best. Whether you're a resident or a visitor to the region, I'm sure you'll find these links helpful, informative and entertaining.

For many years the residents of Western New York and Southern Ontario have interacted both socially and economically.
As a transplant to the Buffalo area, I can see how people who are life long residents take living here for granted. I've lived in many cities in many states over the years and I can truthfully say that this area is by far the best. In the Summer, especially, there are so many things to do and see that often times it boils down to picking one thing over the other. From skiing to boating, festivals, sightseeing and concerts, we have it all right here in our own back yard. We buy our donuts at Tim Hortens, we both drink Labatt's and Molsen's, and even the Buffalo Bills now have a Toronto connection. We are tied together economically and this relationship will continue to grow.

Like many Western New Yorkers, my family and I have made day trips and overnighters to Toronto and Niagara Falls. Canadian families travel here for the same reasons. Canuffalo gives you quick access to all the information you will ever need to plan out your next trip. Residents and visitors alike can use Canuffalo as a resource to find out what's going on in both countries. Canuffalo does not provide this information directly; rather it works more like a directory, providing links to the best national, regional and local websites that do. You'll recognize most of them, as they are popular sites that all provide quality content. I've done the research and setup. Canuffalo's links go to the specific pages on the websites that cover the areas you are interested in. This saves you time because you don't have to search and navigate the website yourself. Feel free to surf these sites to your heart's content. They all open in their own windows so just close them out and you'll be back in Canuffalo. You can use the website navigation or browser buttons to navigate Canuffalo itself.
I'm always looking for good websites to add to Canuffalo. I'll tell you how to contact me shortly.

I also wanted to make Canuffalo a social website where the people of Western New York and Southern Ontario could have a place to chat, share ideas and discuss common issues. "Canuffalo Talks" is where you can start a blog, sound off in the forums, live chat, and upload pics and video. You can even start your own group. Anyone can view the posts. If you want to participate, you can join very easily by providing your email address and creating a user name and password. That's it.
I'm looking forward to seeing you there. I'm sure we have a lot to talk about.

Canuffalo also offers you an easy way to find and add your local events. This is hosted by Yahoo/Homecoming. See all sorts of local events and other current happenings in your area. Add your own event for free. You'll see the link on the homepage.

Finally, feel free to use our own classified ad section with many categories to choose from. It lets you post a photo of your ad, a url of your choice, anonymous email and html formatting. Best of all, it's free.

How to Navigate the Website

Canuffalo is broken down into 3 main areas. With our easy to use interface you can:

  • Find all the Travel Information you need right on our home page. There are quality links to everything related to traveling in or between our two countries. Links go to customs, border delays, mass transit, weather, road conditions and more. There's even a link to the locations for the best gas prices in your area.

  • Regions - These are split between Western New York and Southern Ontario. Selecting either column opens a menu where you can choose your area of interest, such as events, media, shopping and more. The page you select will contain general information on the category along with quality links to great websites containing the information you are looking for. If you want localize your search to the county or municipality level, you can use our regional map.

  • Counties/Municipalities (Regional Map) - This map is located on the home page. Move your mouse over the geographical area you are interested in and click to open the page. (You can also use the drop down menu) Each page is specific to the County or Municipality that you select and has information for local government, tourism, history, and more.

You may find some overlapping of resources between the Regions and County/Municipality sections. This is due to the formats of the websites referenced by Canuffalo. If you can't find what you're looking for in one section, try another.
We designed the site so that all external links open in their own windows. This is to allow you to explore the other websites to your hearts content without closing the main Canuffalo website. The Canuffalo pages themselves are internally linked, so use the navigation buttons to move around.

Do you know of any websites that you think would be a good addition to Canuffalo? Let us know about it at (Admin@canuffalo.com) All suggestions will be evaluated prior to inclusion. You can read the criteria we use to accept new links here.
